Our Board Meeting for December will take place on Monday, December 11.
SONC adopted the following position relative to Metro's Sepulveda Transit Corridor Project, in which SONC favors Alternative 6, a fully-underground heavy-rail option, because of its equity with the project’s underground plan south of Mulholland, similarity to and compatibility with other existing heavy rail lines in Los Angeles, its heavy rail-serviced stop at UCLA, and its route along Van Nuys Blvd, congruent with the south end of the East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Transit Line.
“The Sherman Oaks Neighborhood Council (SONC) prefers Alternative 6 or a similar fully-underground heavy rail concept in the San Fernando Valley. SONC strongly opposes Alternative 4 and opposes any proposal that would require the displacement of Sherman Oaks residents and businesses.”
SONC supports the creation of an Office of Compliance, provided that this office has disciplinary authority to establish, maintain, and enforce an adequate review system, in conjunction with the city's existing Ethics Commission, and to refer violations of conflict or interest, ethics, corruption, or other like violations to Los Angeles City Attorney's Office or other relevant agency for investigation and disciplinary action. SONC does NOT support an Office of Compliance that only advises City Council members without binding authority to address violations. It does no good whatsoever for the people of Los Angeles to establish an Office of Compliance without teeth and ability to effectively combat foul play.
